The Abramson Center for Jewish Life is a nonprofit provider of services to seniors that includes nursing care, assisted living, hospice, adult day care, counseling for caregivers, and aging research. Volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to, one on one friendly visits, reading to a resident, working with residents in our tech center, working along side staff during group activities such as games or arts & crafts, and aiding residents to their desired activities. Our residents have a passion for horticulture, spending time in our green house or working in one of our gardens is another wonderful option to complete your mitzvah project. Busy schedules are a part of life, we also offer projects that can be done outside of the facility. These include collecting items to be used throughout the Center (i.e. books, games, CD’s, DVD’s, etc.), donating fresh flowers from bar/bat mitzvah, donating plants for the facilities green house or making something for the residents (i.e. center pieces, jewelry, baking, etc…)
Mitzvah project opportunities include:

Saturday Shabbat – transporting and assisting residents to Saturday morning Shabbat services.
Project SHEMA- multi-generational programming ran every Sunday morning through out the school year. Allows the oldest and youngest generations of the Jewish community to interact and work together on religious activities, art projects, board games…etc This is a great way to develop a relationship with the residents in a fun and relaxed environment while completing your Mitzvah project.

Project H.O.P.E. works with the community family service agencies and local Jewish social services and with B’nai B’rith members and synagogue volunteers. Jewish organizations provide the lists of people who need packages and the facilities for collecting, storing, and packing the food. B’nai B’rith volunteers assemble and deliver the packages. Begun in New York, the program has spread to Boston, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Last year in Philadelphia, 540 families received Passover food.

As a once a year Mitzvah Project, the Sunday before Passover, deliver Kosher for Passover food to our most needy, elderly and isolated Jews in the Philadelphia Region. The Project involves planning, fundraising, and volunteers to ensure success annually.

The Passover League, founded in 1933, is supported by volunteers and many Philadelphia charitable organizations. Its mission is to help needy individuals and families celebrate the Passover holiday. Seders, funded by The Passover League, are held throughout various Delaware Valley locations. These seders reach thousands of individuals who would normally be unable to celebrate the traditional Passover holiday. The Passover League also serves Jewish veterans in various local hospitals.  Additionally, kosher meals are served through The Passover League to homebound seniors.

B’nai mitzvah students (for their mitzvah project or community service project) may help by raising charitable dollars through a Matzah drive or other creative fundraiser or help with the Golden Slipper Seder. Contact The Passover League to see how you can make an impact on their mission.
