CONCERN is a dynamic private non-profit 501(c)(3) human services organization dedicated to providing prevention, placement and treatment services to children, adults and families. Founded in 1978, CONCERN began as a pioneer of treatment foster care, believing that children placed into care should live in a traditional family setting in the community, rather than in a residential or institutional setting. Since this time, CONCERN has been at the forefront of innovative programs to meet the individual needs of the child.

Since 1978, CONCERN has served more than 15,000 children and youth in placement services, including placing more than 1,500 children into adoptive families. Through 17 service sites throughout eastern and northcentral Pennsylvania and Maryland, CONCERN offers a growing array of adoption, counseling, foster care, and residential programs. Each day, our placement services impact the lives of more than 300 children and youth. Each year, our counseling services touch the lives of more than 4,500 individuals through a continuum of services.
Locally, CONCERN operates a foster care and adoption/permanency service site in Willow Grove. During the past year, this site provided services to nearly 100 children and youth in need.

In terms of community service projects, many of these children come into care with very little and often with all of their possessions in a trash bag. CONCERN has initiated a “Personal Care Kit” project to remedy this indignity. These personal care kits typically include a duffel bag containing a towel, washcloth, toothbrush, toothbrush holder, shampoo, soap, soap holder, comb, brush, tissues, moist towelettes, and a small toy or stuffed animal. In addition, CONCERN also seeks donations of back-to-school items such as backpacks and supplies.

If a monetary gift would like to be given, CONCERN operates two funds that directly the benefit the children and youth in care. One fund is the Special Needs Fund that assists in meeting the children’s recreational, educational, social, and medical needs. The other fund is the SHARE Fund that provides for group activities and celebrations, including holiday parties, summer picnics and trips to amusement park s and to ballgames.
All gifts to CONCERN help us achieve our goal of giving the children back their childhoods that have been taken from them. We wish for the children to enjoy the benefits of traditional family and community activities as would any other child.
