Project Backpack was started in October, 1999 to help children who were the victims of domestic violence, but we have now expanded our services to include any child in a crisis situation. Backpacks are distributed on the scene by police or social service agencies so that the children will have something to call “their own”. Our backpacks are age and gender appropriate, and all items are new. They contain items like toiletries, sleep-t’s, school supplies, books, stuffed animal to love and much more, and are designed to get the children through the first hours as they are moved from a crisis situation to a safer environment.  We distribute these to any police department or social agency free of charge.

Volunteers of all ages, are always needed at the warehouse to help put away donations, pack backpacks or prepare items to go into the backpacks.   This is a huge undertaking as the request for backpacks come in daily and are increasing in numbers every month. We have some people unable to come to pack but will hold a drive to collect items for us. There is a list of items on our website that are needed right now, and a list of other items that are needed for each age group.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please check the packing schedule on our website and call to let us know when you would like to come.
