Yad Leahs mission is to alleviate the impact of poverty in Israel by providing high quality, new and lightly used clothes to low income Jewish communities in a manner that preserves the individuals self-respect. Collected by volunteers in the United States, the clothing is sold for a fraction of its true value in a store-like environment in Israel. By providing families with an opportunity to shop for affordable clothing, Yad Leah treats its customers with the dignity that is due all human beings.
Volunteer Opportunity:  For a bar or bat mitzvah project you can host a clothing drive!   You will provide an opportunity to your family, friends and community to positively use their otherwise “useless” clothing and help out a needy family. They also have a chance to actively partake in this tremendous chessed with their time by planning and coordinating this effort. Most importantly however, this community service project will be giving hundreds of the less privileged children and families in Israel an opportunity to go about their daily lives with more pride, dignity, self-respect and less stress.
When our bnei mitzvah (and passionate older-than-bnei-mitzvah) teens run clothing or fundraising drives it’s usually a synagogue or school based event. Running a drive involved planning a time and location, lots of advertising, and being at the given location on the grand day.
If you wish to run a fundraiser to send the clothing to Israel, there are many more ways of doing it. That’s where your creativity comes in! You can run a bake sale, food stand, coordinate a swim/bowl-a-thon, and much, much more!
