We first heard about D.C. Cupcakes
on the Food Network
. Then Cupcakes by Melissa
in NYC became popular. And now cupcake stores are popping up all across the U.S.
Tweens and teens have jumped in on the phenomenon by baking and selling cupcakes for their causes.
For example, Cupcakes for Cancer
, based in Santa Barbara, CA is setting the trend for by selling cupcakes for kids and families stricken with cancer. They have raised over $95,000 since 2007. Cupcakes for a Cause
offers a bake sale kit with proceeds going towards CancerCare, a national care network. They also sell e-cupcakes with a sponsor donating $1 for every e-cupcake sold.
For future community service and mitzvah projects, young bakers may create their own ‘cupcake-for-a-charity’ campaign! Check out themitzvahbowl.com
for numerous charities from which to choose.
