Bringing a Community Together with Blankets

project linus 1MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY PROJECT 2014

Students at Lower Gwynedd Elementary School, Lower Gwynedd, PA spent
part of their day of service on Monday, January 20, 2014 making fleece blankets for Project Linus.
These blankets will be given to needy children in our local area. The students
gathered at the Ambler YMCA at 11 am and by the time they were ready to
leave, they had completed 19 blankets. Jackie Cain, Coordinator of the
Montgomery/Bucks Counties, PA chapter was on hand to help where needed.
There were over 30 participants to help with the project. There were students
from the elementary school, their younger brothers and sisters, a few older sisters
who did this last year, and Moms and Dads, ready and willing to cut and tie the
fleece. The blankets will be taken to the Ambler Senior Center, SAAC, and they
will each have a label sewn on and then be sorted by size for bagging and delivery
at the end of the month.

This is a great project for any child needing to do a service project. Several boys
and girls have made blankets for Project Linus as their service project when
making their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. There is always a need for them and it is
nice seeing children/young adults making something that will give comfort
to others.project linus 3
