New Beginnings

Are you getting ready to send your kids back to school for the start of another whirlwind of a year? It’s an exciting time when everyone gets their classroom/teacher assignments, school supplies and gears up for sports teams and practices.

One piece of the scheduling puzzle should be taken into account NOW—and that’s when your bar/bat mitzvah child will be working on his/her mitzvah project.

Take into consideration the following factors:

  1. When is the bar/bat mitzvah? If it is in the winter or prior, its probably time for your son or daughter to work on their mitzvah project in the next couple of months.
  2. Where is the organization your son or daughter is supporting? Is it local or a far distance. Plan your work/travel schedule accordingly so your child doesn’t miss out on seeing the impact of his/her efforts.
  3. Homework. Get a sense if your sixth, seventh or eighth grader has a heavier load of schoolwork than in the past. Have him/her coordinate their volunteer efforts around their homework schedule; also a great way to practice time management skills.
