HomeFront’s mission is to end homelessness in Central New Jersey by harnessing the caring, resources and expertise of the community.
In the U.S., an astonishing 1.7 million children are homeless. That is one out of every 45 children in our community.
We lessen the immediate pain of homelessness and help families become
self-sufficient.
We work to give our clients the skills and opportunities to ensure adequate incomes, and we work to increase the availability of adequate, affordable housing. We help homeless families advocate for themselves individually and collectively.
For your mitzvah project, there are many ways to get involved with HomeFront and helping those in need in your community. We have opportunities and ideas for all ages, groups, and interests.
Examples:
FOOD
There are families in our community that have to decide whether to pay their rent or buy food for their family. Help stock the shelves of HomeFront’s food pantry so families don’t have to go hungry to pay their rent.
CLOTHING
Kids are constantly growing, which means they’re growing out of clothes every year. Help a homeless or needy child feel good about their first day of school and every day after that by helping provide a school uniform, or even something as simple as new socks and underwear.
PERSONAL CARE ITEMS
Collect regular sized toiletries for children and their parents. Assemble personal care kits for men, women and children if you’d like, or you can simply donate all of your items in one big batch. Read more to find out what’s most needed.
ART SUPPLIES
Help cultivate the budding artist that lies inside of all children and allows them to express themselves in ways words sometimes cannot.
ACTIVITY BAGS
Create a bag filled with activities to keep kids busy while they’re waiting with their parents in HomeFront’s waiting room or sitting with a case manager to receive services. There can be a lot of waiting and it’s more fun when there’s something to do.
DIAPER BAGS FOR NEW MOMS
Stock a diaper bag with the things a mom needs to care for her newborn baby.
