Simon’s Mitzvah Project

Simon’s Mitzvah Project with One World Futbols–the world’s most durable soccer ball designed to enable play anywhere and everywhere–for youth in disadvantaged communities. Simon is a soccer fanatic, so when it came time to select a volunteer project he could do for his bar mitzvah, raising unpoppable soccer balls for kids who don’t even have something as simple as a ball, was a natural fit. Through his campaign, Simon was able to raise 59 One World Futbols, and bring play to 1770 kids! Watch the video! Simon is one of many Bar/Bat Mitzvah students that has chosen to start a […]

Daulton’s Pitchin’ In

For my Mitzvah Project I wanted to work on a project with which I could identify. I love sports and searched for organizations related to either baseball or basketball. I found Pitch in for Baseball and I was hooked. Pitch In For Baseball, located in Harleysville, PA, provides new and gently used baseball and softball equipment to boys and girls in the United States and around the world who want to play ball but lack the equipment to do so. They are the proven leaders in collecting and redistributing equipment resources to communities and organizations in need. In July 2014, […]

Bringing Art Class to the HomeFront

Liza Peck, Volunteer Coordinator for HomeFrontNJ.org, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness, was excited to send themitzvahbowl.com this story about a recent mitzvah project. Jared loves art and wanted to bring the joy of art to kids who may not be able to afford it on their own. He named his project heART for HomeFront. He had taken art classes with KidzArt franchise before and enjoyed it because they teach you how to draw (and other types of art) even if you feel insecure about it. He decided to write a letter to neighbors, friends and family to solicit donations to pay […]

Mitzvah Monday – this past weekend Owen celebrated becoming a Bar Mitzvah ~read what Owen did for his Mitzvah project. Awesome and timely Owen. It is cold out there!!  For my mitzvah project, I have become involved in an organization called Hats 4 The Homeless. I am collecting hats, gloves and scarves to give to the needy to stay warm in the cold winter months ahead. Hats 4 the Homeless grew out of the heart of one young man who cared about those less fortunate. He died suddenly in 1998. Hats 4 the Homeless was created in his memory to […]

To Walk in Their Shoes

Part of becoming a member of the Jewish community today also means taking on moral responsibilities and helping to repair the world.  While volunteering at Cradles to Crayons, a local charity helping needy kids in the Philadelphia area, Brendan realized that the charity was in dire need of kids’ shoes, particularly boys’ athletic shoes.   As a cross country runner himself, Brendan knows about the importance of good athletic shoes. During his volunteer sessions, he was saddened that there were no shoes in the sizes needed to complete orders requested from social workers. From the Fall of 2012, right up until his Bar […]

10 Summertime Souper Good Deeds

Has summer boredom kicked in?  Looking to help others while you have more time on your hands. Organizations find their volunteer base diminishes in the summer.  Help them fill the gap with these ideas: 1.  Volunteer at your local library. 2.  Care for animals at a horse farm or zoo. 3.  Weed and water plants at an urban or community garden. 4.  Tutor other children. Call an elementary school and offer your services to teach kids to read or practice math facts. 5.  Sell lemonade and donate money to a cause. Check out unique recipes for lemonade on Pinterest. 6. Cook […]
